The McLeod County Jail project was funded by Honeywell’s performance contracting model. Honeywell provides capital improvement for cash starved public agencies in exchange for a long term lease payment and a service contract for Honeywell. The solar system was incorporated into the project for pre-heating domestic water used within the jail

ECI was contacted by Foster Mechanical to assist with development of the non solar mechanical renovations associated with the project. While participating in a design meeting Tarr introduced the idea of a solar thermal system. Honeywell decided to pursue the idea with the result of a solar thermal system installed.

ECI worked with Foster Mechanical with our Tier II service. We bid the major solar components along with the engineering design and commissioning package. Foster Mechanical is well known regionally in the mechanical contracting industry, but had never done a solar system. ECI was able to assist their company and their project foreman to successfully implement the first jail solar thermal system in MN.
